Tyler Walker

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

“Healing begins in a space where people feel safe, seen, and genuinely understood.”

Welcome! My name is Tyler, and at the heart of my work as a counsellor is the belief that healing begins in a space where people feel safe, seen, and genuinely understood. I strive to create an open, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment grounded in person-centred and strength-based care. I recognize that each person is the expert on their own life — no one understands their experiences, needs, and inner world better than they do.

I approach therapy as a collaborative process. Through connection, empathy, curiosity, and respect, I help clients explore their experiences at their own pace, recognize their strengths, and gently navigate challenges. I believe growth becomes possible when people feel supported enough to be fully themselves.

I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science focused on Human Nature, completed through studies at the University of Guelph and Lakehead University.

My therapeutic style is eclectic and integrative, allowing me to draw from different approaches based on each client’s needs and goals. My work is primarily humanistic and person-centred and may also incorporate CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused therapy, and other evidence-informed approaches. I work with individuals, couples, and families in areas including anxiety, depression, addiction, career counselling, sport psychology, and healthy development.

Outside of my work, I enjoy staying active, spending time with friends, travelling, and trying new things. My partner, Leanne, and I love the outdoors and all things sports, but are equally happy enjoying a quiet night at home with our dog, Maya, and rescue cat, Tom.

I believe therapy is a shared journey — one in which therapist and client walk, grow, and learn together. I consider it a genuine honour to walk alongside each person I support.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does “Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)” mean?

It’s the category the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario uses for therapists who have completed the required education and are working through their supervised practice hours toward full registration. Qualifying members are on the CRPO’s public register, practise under clinical supervision, and are held to the same standards and the same complaints process as any registrant.

Tyler’s registration number is 18607, and he holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.

Will my insurance cover sessions with Tyler?

Often, but it’s worth one phone call first. Many extended health plans cover a Registered Psychotherapist; some name Qualifying members specifically and some don’t.

Ask your insurer: “Does my plan cover a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario, and is a receipt all you need?” Whatever the answer, we’ll go through your options on the free consultation — the Fees & Financing page has the rest.

Who does Tyler work with?

Individuals, couples and families. The areas he works in most are anxiety, depression, addiction — cannabis in particular — career counselling, sport psychology, and healthy development.

If what you’re carrying sits across several of those at once, that’s normal, and it’s the reason his practice is deliberately broad.

What is a session with Tyler actually like?

Collaborative, and paced by you. He works from the belief that you are the expert on your own life — his job is to make the room safe enough for you to say the true thing, then to be curious about it with you.

His style is integrative, so depending on what you’re working on a session might draw on CBT, DBT, ACT or solution-focused approaches. The approach follows the person, not the other way round.

Does Tyler work with athletes?

Yes — sport psychology is one of his focus areas, alongside anxiety, depression and addiction.

For a lot of athletes those overlap: performance pressure, identity tied to the sport, and what happens when either one wobbles. Having them held by one person rather than three is the point.
